This weekend I checked out The Drink (www.thedrink.ca), 130 George Street. I was pretty impressed. I have been there before but not since they renovated…I see the difference and I like it. I wanna give a big shout out to Ebony and Ivory – Ottawas hottest soundcrew – who has one night a month over there. Other than that – DJ Naughty Nice plays there each and every Friday. (And check out DJ Edison each and every Saturday.) Naughty Nice spins the hottest hip hop, R&B, house and top 40… He definitely knows how to hype up the crowd.

A bit about the club:

It features a modern decor, huge crowds every weekend, 4 bars, 7 private VIP booths, a large dance floor, patio, hosted VIP bottle service, and a great vibe that compensates for the humble size of this club.

When I was on the highway on my way over there, I kept thinking – ’I know what Moxies is about – I’ve been to the East end location – its great but its not spectacular.’

Well – I take it back. This place was IMPRESSIVE. WOW. It was soooo sexy.

There are two sides. A cool blue theme on the right side – quiet and sleek, and the red theme room on the left side – the louder more firey side with a HUGE bar. Seriously the bar is like 10 stories high. It’s VERY sexy. All the characteristics of the other large moxies – but escalated.

Here’s what we ordered – it was absolutely delicious, I recommend it:

Ahi tuna crisps: sushi-grade ahi tuna seared rare in a sesame-dijon crust, presented on a ginger shiitake salad with crispy wontons and lemon aioli.

Avocado spring rolls: diced fresh avocado, sundried tomatoes and lime juice rolled in a crispy pastry, served with sweet chili sauce.

Skillet of garlic mushrooms (vegetarian): delicately sauteed with fresh garlic, lemon, pepper and butter.

Tandoori wild salmon salad: warm tandoori marinated wild salmon filet perched on a bed of mixed greens, tossed with mango, onions, sunflower seeds, water chestnuts and a mango and sweet chili dressing, served with melted brie on naan bread.

Shanghai noodles: your choice of chicken or prawns sautéed in a ginger-garlic sauce with shiitake mushrooms, shanghai noodles, baby bok choy and julienne vegetables; intensify the spice, tell us how spicy you want it: mild, medium or hot.

This is a great idea – I’m impressed with this city. These parking meter look-alikes are for donations to the street people of Ottawa. What an amazing program. Next time your out and about in the market, make sure you drop some change into there!!!

So I reviewed this club a while back on a Monday night…But I had no clue this place was bumping every Thursday for ’Student night’. This place was PACKED!!!

The music was good and the drinks were cheap (as well as bottle service, which is nice). They played a mix of Hip hop, techno, reggaeton, dancehall and r&b.

Although it was good, I really wouldn’t suggest people over the age of about 24 to go there on this particular night. Hull is already known for its teeny-boppers (seeing as how you can get into clubs over there when you turn 18) …. And this night is heavily concentrated with these kids… hey – I’m not hating – I’m just saying!

But If you are really in the mood, and you don’t gotta get up for work or school – do your thang thang across the bridge.

So we all know that the second day of the work week is the cheapy day when it comes to movies (click HERE to see if a theater near you has the $4.99 ticket deal on Tuesdays) and fast food deals. But Tuesday is also apparently the day to party too. LOL. Wow. A LOT of you know this…but for those of you who have been living under a rock, Gracie’s is ON and POPPIN on Tuesday nights. (www.gracies.ca 1541 Merivale Rd, West End) I’m pretty sure I ran into anyone and everyone I have ever met there! LOL.

A few things to note:

1.) Get there really early or you will wait in line for at least an hour. *If you are bar staff (and you don’t already know the bouncers) bring a pay stub and you will get into the VIP line.

2.) If you like Hip Hop – get there early! The DJ starts to spin some rock and tehno/dance later in the night.

So If you don’t mind a really crowded bar and a lot of silly drunks – this is a chill place to go for a change.

West End’s Gracie’s gets my approval!

2.) Ebony & Ivory Pajama Party: March 23rd is the date – and the location is held secret until only 24 hours before the event. Should be real hot! No PJ’s…No entry so make sure you cop some cute ones!!!!

3.) 112 in Ottawa: Thats right ya’ll… Bad Boy recording artists 112 will be HERE LIVE IN CONCERT March 23, 2008. Big shouts to my boy GMoney for doing his thang and bringing these guys down! Stay tuned for show details!

4.) ERUPTION: woooooo–wiiiii this is the hottest event for THE LADIES!!! America’s Most Wanted are coming to O-Town!!! AHAHAH its gonna be FIYAAA for the ladies!!!!!

Best Hip Hop Party in Ottawa

The Grand Opening of SECTION 222 on Friday November 2nd was a definite success. The goal of the newly renovated club was to weed out the haters that ruined it for the rest of us, while keeping their loyal patrons – still loyal. After a heavy brawl that caused the club to shut its doors for 3 weeks, the owner decided to take this spot to the next level.
Section 222 is a small club with a basement party feel. The new orange and cream color scheme, candles, and other accessories definitely help brighten up the spot.
The biggest change of all – is the upscale feel. Don’t get me wrong – this party is POPPIN but the strict dress code really helps adhere to the new feel of this place.
This is DEFINITELYthe BEST Hip Hop/R & B/Reggae party in the city. What helps (LOL) is that the best sound crew is in charge…Ebony and Ivory. WHaaaaat! You KNOW when its an E&I party its gonna be off the hooooook!!!
Friday was their Caribbean party theme – Hawaiian leas included! And Saturday was their famous 90s show. I must say — Saturday was CRAZY!!! All types of people came – from fresh 23 year olds to just-as-fresh 43 year olds. E&I played the best of 90s Hip Hop, R&B and Reggae. TRUST ME – when you get out of this place you are soaked. LOL. Thats how HAWT this party was.
