Places 2 Go…Things To See, Hear and Wear.
So, my friend Rachel who is a great jewelry designer surprised me when she emailed me a request to model for her on the A Channel. Immediately I agreed and a few days later I found myself waking up at the crack of dawn to appear on the morning show.
Rachel’s jewelry business ( www.taiknots.com ) is really taking off. She has appeared in Lou Lou magazine, in the local newspapers and on a few different TV shows. Her unique jewelry is being sold all across Canada. This young and talented Canadian artist produces exotic
pieces which creatively combine the art of Chinese knotting with her use of semi-precious stones.
“Every piece that I create has power beyond its unique appearance. My
jewellery not only enhances appearance, but exudes warmth and positive energy that is felt, but hard to explain. I’m incredibly motivated: not only by my ability to create beauty but also by how my
jewelry positively enhances people’s energies and lives.”
Thanks Rachel!!!! I enjoyed myself as always! And even got to walk away with a GORGEOUS red set!
The New Mee Fung Vietnamese Restaurant, 350 Booth St.
FOOOOOOD! For those of you who know me, know that one of my (almost) hobbies is trying new restaurants! I love food and I love the experience of dining out! And while I enjoy all types of restaurants, there is something special about eating at a good restaurant for CHEAP! YUP! That’s right!! Cheap baby! I love a deal!
So, a close friend of mine and I decided to take a Christmas supper in china town. There are a lot of cute spots in china town – but this is the first time that we came to this particular one.
I had the Vermicelli bowl with chicken and shrimp, as well as fresh shrimp spring rolls. MMMMMMmmmMMm. Let me tell you!!! This place is wicked! The huge bowl of food was $7.00 and the shrimp spring rolls (you get two huge ones) were $5.00. At any mainstream restaurant you would pay at LEAST $17 for the bowl and $10.00 for the spring rolls!!!The service was fast too! OH! And the menu is HUGE! Just finding the combination that looks good to you will take an hour!!! LOL
Its FAR from posh, but its friendly environment and the food is great!!!
Check it out when you want some good food for cheap!!!
On Saturday night I was at this new place that just opened in Ottawa…Bricktone. It opened its doors for the first Saturday ever and I was lucky enough to be working with my peeps – Ebony and Ivory (HOTTEST sound crew in the city!!!) It was the Alicia Keys CD release party for her hot new CD – “AS I AM”
Let me tell you – not only was the party HYPE to DEF! I predict that this spot will be the hottest spot of 2008. It’s a large classy club with a gourmet kitchen. At the beginning of the night we served really high end hors d’oeuvres (salmon rolls, halibut, crab spread, oysters with pecan garlic butter etc) while the music was still on the old school R&B tip.
As the night hyped up Ebony and Ivory began their Alicia Keys CD giveaways on the mic (I was lucky enough to snagg a copy – Thanks D Train!!) The music soon lived up to the excitement of everyone there – Mace started bumping Reggae, a bit of HIP HOP and A LOT of the hottest R&B out there.
The club had a great overall vibe – big enough to fit in everyone under the sun, but still keep a cozy feeling. The inside of the club is surrounded by brick walls with old pictures frames and hard wood floors. Candle light lit the room and the windows along the entire side of the club showed people who walked by – just what they were missing.
The club has a large VIP room furnished with comfy couches and ottomans for bottle service. There are two other out-of-the-way banquet rooms where couples sat at candle lit tables and enjoyed the music.
My rating for this club – DEF a 10/10!!

So, I had the pleasure of shooting for Anokhi Magazine again. I have been working with Desi Wear for a few years now, and every single shoot has been truly entertaining, memorable and an honor. It seems like every shoot I do, we always come up with something new – each and every time. Also, one of my favorite things to do is to shoot with others. I love it because I find that we feed off of each others energy. Samy Osman, (from Angies Models), the male model that Jef Harris introduced to this shoot was a definite pleasure! Anytime someone makes me laugh, means I’m having a great time! (And you’ll see that in the behind the scenes shots). Click on the picture to see the full set of shots, or click here.
The shirts that we featured in this shoot, (listed below) are the top sellers right now:
Rani (Jef’s design)
Tusker
Rampart
You can pick these up, as well as many other designs exclusively at desiwear.com.
Anyways, we shot at SIN Nightclub. Big shouts to Derek – thanks for accommodating us! I always enjoy coming to Sin. If your ever in the mood – check it out at the corner of Elgin, (380 Elgin) and Gladstone.
After the shoot we decided to get a quick bite at Elgin Street Diner. I love that place. Its the best 24 hour spot FOR SURE!!! You can go in after the club and order breakfast, a steak or blueberry pancakes. MmMMMmm….You gotta check this place out if your ever on Elgin… Come to think of it, I should do a review over there..So, watch out for that… I’ll taste test the best of the menu and let ya’ll know whats goood!!!!!
Check me out in Anokhi Magazine available at Mags and Fags on Elgin St. and all 711 corner stores!
Fall/Winter 2007 seems to be a progressive and regressive season all in one. Its crazy. Seems like Kanye really set a tone with his flashy 90′s style glasses and random scarves. Seems like every stylish street corner you turn on, you see this updated early 90′s look. I love this casual and colorful style – it looks sick when you mix![]()
unconventional colors, wear a random florescent color, or add to your outfit with a loose patterned scarf.Hip hop is definitely a HUGE influence for this style. Many parts of this look date back to the late 80′s – early 90′s. Punk also adds its two cents – with leg hugging pants for the
ladies and tighter pants for the gents. I also love when guys mix it up with a smaller fitting tee on top. The gangsta look has progressed into being friendlier and more approachable…The old school tone has set that mood. There’s also the ‘Gangsta chic’ look. You know what I’m talking about… When guys throw on a blazer over top a tee with Nice jeans and krisp kicks.
There is a large variety of these looks – some mixed in with high fashion (blazer with tee, jeans and runners), some with a punk style (tighter jeans and tee with scarf) and some with a ‘skater’ influence — something that rapper Pharell has been on for
years.
I’ve noticed girls have incorporated this vintage hip hop look into their outfits for a while now…and I’m glad to see the opposite gender catch on… I love this style and I find that
especially guys who would usually never give in to a ‘trendier’ look have embraced it… In my opinion this is because Hip Hop is becoming more open minded than a few years back…its getting back to its roots and encouraging consciousness and positiveness…as well as all the other USUAL good stuff (LOL) ie. The Struggle…The Bling…
If you think you have a sick style – send me your picks.
What: Addiction
Where: Hull
When: Monday November 12, 2007Best Monday Night Party in the area
This is pretty much the only thing thats popping on Mondays…If anyone knows any different — Holla At Me! I wanna go and check it out.
For veterans (LOL) this club is known as Cosmos…it was renovated early this year and went from a pretty scuzzy, sweaty, dark club with a TINY dance floor to a pretty nice place. Before, the bar was right in the middle and there was a 4 x 4 dance floor with speakers that took over most of it – and a raised DJ booth. HAHAAH I remember when drunken girls would be almost falling off the speakers dancing at the same time as yelling at the DJ to play thier favorite song. WOW. This place definitely cleaned up its act.
I think when a club renovates, it also attracts better clientele. The new look also makes you wanna dress up a bit more….
Anyways — Monday nights…There is no cover, coat check and REALLY cheap drinks. Pretty cool people – although I’m pretty sure they are mostly all regulars. The DJ plays a mix of Techno and Hip Hop…but not like before…Now, he plays a good mix of it. Remember back in the day the DJ played a bit of hip hop at the beginning of the night and ALL TECHNO for the rest of the night. WOW. Thats wild. They didn’t care that no one was dancing – it was stupid HULL politics. But now, I guess they bent a bit and they actually allow good music to be played. I’m not a big fan of techno – but I enjoyed the songs he was playing.
Anyway – good atmosphere, cheap drinks…Good music and comfortable seating (minus the benches in the back — BTW — my good friend Jade who bartends there told me NOT TO SIT BACK THERE – enough said LOL)
Monday nights at Addiction get my approval!
What: SECTION 222
Where: 222 Slater @ Bank
When: Friday Nov. 2 and Saturday Nov. 3, 2007
Best Hip Hop Party in Ottawa
The Grand Opening of SECTION 222 on Friday November 2nd was a definite success. The goal of the newly renovated club was to weed out the haters that ruined it for the rest of us, while keeping their loyal patrons – still loyal. After a heavy brawl that caused the club to shut its doors for 3 weeks, the owner decided to take this spot to the next level.
Section 222 is a small club with a basement party feel. The new orange and cream color scheme, candles, and other accessories definitely help brighten up the spot.
The biggest change of all – is the upscale feel. Don’t get me wrong – this party is POPPIN but the strict dress code really helps adhere to the new feel of this place.![]()
This is DEFINITELYthe BEST Hip Hop/R & B/Reggae party in the city. What helps (LOL) is that the best sound crew is in charge…Ebony and Ivory. WHaaaaat! You KNOW when its an E&I party its gonna be off the hooooook!!!
Friday was their Caribbean party theme – Hawaiian leas included! And Saturday was their famous 90s show. I must say — Saturday was CRAZY!!! All types of people came – from fresh 23 year olds to just-as-fresh 43 year olds. E&I played the best of 90s Hip Hop, R&B and Reggae. TRUST ME – when you get out of this place you are soaked. LOL. Thats how HAWT this party was.
Next up for SECTION 222:
Krispy Thursdays with DJ Tdot
Win a Krisp pair of shoes every Thursday in November – Jordans, Bapes, Ice Creams – Whatever You Choose – Its on them!
RIO Fridays with D-TRAIN & MACE: The Upscale Carnival Experience
